Field Day

We all remember field day at school.  The day you got to go out and have fun all day.  Well hams have their own field day, and let me tell you.. it’s a BLAST!

Field Day offers amateur radio operators an excuse to go play with all their toys, compete with other radio clubs for the most points.  Most importantly though Field day is an exercise in emergency preparedness.

On Field Day hams  go out and set up their gear off the grid, and away from normal installations for 24 hours during the 4th weekend in June.  This simulates an disaster scenario where all power has been knocked out and allows hams to practice setting up on backup systems.  This also gives the general public a chance to come see what amateur radio is all about.
